Also refutes a false report of USAID disaster team termination in Myanmar.
The U.S. State Department recently notified Congress that it will be assuming the duties of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and close the agency. President Trump’s administration won a legal challenge of DOGE’s efforts regarding USAID prior to the announcement and the agency will be shut down as of July 1.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated, “Foreign assistance done right can advance our national interests, protect our borders, and strengthen our partnerships with key allies. Unfortunately, USAID strayed from its original mission long ago. As a result, the gains were too few and the costs were too high.”
He continued, “Thanks to President Trump, this misguided and fiscally irresponsible era is now over. We are reorienting our foreign assistance programs to align directly with what is best for the United States and our citizens. We are continuing essential lifesaving programs and making strategic investments that strengthen our partners and our own country.”
After an erroneous report claimed that a 3-person USAID disaster assessment team was terminated in Myanmar, a State Department official asserted, “No one was fired. … All USAID personnel were either given a 1-July or 2-September termination date.”
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Rubio to be discerning as he heads the State Department.
- For State Department personnel as they seek to transition the programs that will be kept from the agency.
- For the federal workers who have been released to find meaningful replacement careers.
